GIANTS LOAN ROUND-UP
With numerous players currently out on loan, giantsrl.com takes a look at how they got on over the weekend.
Starting in the engage Super League, and prop forward Michael Korkidas made a try scoring second debut for Wakefield Wildcats in their comprehensive 50-6 victory over Celtic Crusaders at the Brewery Field. Korkidas powered over from short range with his first touch.
Moving into the Co-Operative Championship, and free-scoring season long loanee’s Gregg McNally and Jermaine McGilvray continue to impress for Whitehaven and Batley Bulldogs respectively. McNally notched a personal total of 18 points as the cumbrian side defeated Doncaster 50-12 with McNally helping himself to a try and seven conversions, whilst McGilvray helped the Bulldogs instigate the shock of the round with a first half try to the flying winger in a 40-34 victory over Widnes Vikings. Second-Row forward Joe Walsh made his third appearance for Sheffield Eagles, however was unable to help them defeat high flying Barrow.
Reserve team prop forward Sam Crowther was involved in arguably the most high profile game of the weekend as he took his place in the Gateshead line up for their Carnegie Challenge Cup Quarter-Final against St Helens at the Gateshead International Stadium. The north east side went down by 66-6 however the experience of facing the Giants semi-final opponents will have no doubt benefitted Crowther’s development.
Finally, winger Richard Lopag was involved in a thrilling game for Co-Operative Championship 1 side Swinton Lions, starting on the wing and playing his part in a narrow 23-22 win for the Lions.
